Summertime is the best time for grilling, so now's the time to start getting your grill ready! Cooking on the grill not only makes food delicious, it helps keep your house cool in the hot summer. No more sweltering kitchens - take it all outside. And best of all, it's a great way to spend quality time with your family. Now's the time for you to take a closer look at grilling, and see just how much value you can really get from a simple barbecue grill.
When you've got the whole outdoors as your kitchen, there's enough room to get the whole family involved in the meal preparation. No more hot, cramped kitchens! And every woman knows, if you want a man to help with the cooking, all you have to do is get out the grill. There seems to be something in most men that makes them very happy to grill up food on the barbecue, even men who don't usually like to help out in the kitchen. And even more help for Mom - cooking outside means less to clean up in the kitchen later.
Not only can we put Dad to work grilling up the food, we can get our kids happily involved in the meal prep too! While Mom's in the kitchen preparing salads and side dishes, the kids can be at work setting the table for the meal. If you have an outside picnic table, it's even better. Even your littlest kids can carry out the paper plates, mustard and ketchup so everyone feels like they've lent a hand.
And about that outdoor table: you'll find you have much less meal time stress when you don't have to worry about spilled drinks or dropped food. However, when you eat outside there are a couple other things to watch out for. Pick up some reusable, kid-friendly plastic plates and heavier utensils. Look for condiment and napkin holders that don't fall over easily, and that are heavy enough the wind can't blow them off the table. And to keep from losing your tablecloth, you might want to invest in some tablecloth clips.
While a lot of people save cooking on the grill for the weekend, you should really think about grilling during the week. Summer days are longer, so there's plenty of light outside for an 'al fresco' dinner. After spending a stressful day at work or trapped in an office, it's nice to be able to sit outside in the evening and enjoy nature together with your family.
